Fire at local care home worries residents

Buckingham Fire and Rescue were called to a fire at the Swan House care home in Winslow early on Saturday evening.

Local  residents noticed a large amount of smoke coming out of the building, with the 999 call made just after 7pm.

One fire engine and crew from Buckingham went along with three from West Ashland. The main High Street of Winslow had to be closed off for a short period, stopping cars driving directly through from Buckingham to Aylesbury, A413.

Bin storage unit seen to have large amount of smoke

The fire started within a bin storage unit, which is attached to the building. The firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets while police arrived to stop traffic. Residents  did not need to be evacuated.

Swan House is a residential care home, purpose built with secure gardens for up to 32 older people in the centre of Winslow. It has been contacted for comment.
